Abstract

It is a fundamental principle of Marxist political economy, and by many accounts a political truism, that every phase of capitalist development, each advance of capital in the development process, generates or activates new forces of resistance that can be mobilised towards either the Left or the Right. Thus, the evolution of capitalism in different parts of the world and macro-regions can be traced out in terms of such development-and-resistance cycles.
