Abstract

We obtain exact Bloch energies and wavefunctions for a diatomic bond-alternated and superalternated one-dimensional chain. An expression for the third order nonlinear susceptibility x (3) is derived using the Genkin—Mednis approach. It is shown that x (3) strongly depends on the degree of heteroatomicity, bond-alternation superalternation along the chain and is highly anisotropic.
