Abstract

Sexual and gender minorities have been shown to have specific physical and mental health issues and needs. Same-sex marriage was legalized in Taiwan in May 2019, and sexual and gender minorities are becoming increasingly visible in Taiwanese society. Taiwanese healthcare providers and students hold positive attitudes toward sexual and gender minorities and have a high willingness to provide culturally competent care for sexual and gender minority populations. However, these providers and students often lack the knowledge and skills necessary to provide such care. Offering relevant coursework for healthcare students and continuing education courses for healthcare providers could improve the quality of culturally competent care and reduce health disparities among sexual and gender minorities in Taiwan.
