Abstract

Dynamics of milling process is governed by a set of delay differential equations with periodic coefficients. The secondary Hopf bifurcation and period doubling bifurcation are two of main mechanisms which result into instability of the milling processes. This paper proposes a delayed state feedback controller through the discrete optimal control method to suppress the vibration of milling process. Numerical results reveal that the designed controller can suppress the vibrations of milling process efficiently as well as improve the stability of the cutting processes with the introduced time delay. The influence of designed time delay on control performance and robustness are also discussed.
