Abstract

In liquid solution, the population of the metastable triplet state of biphenylene by triplet energy transfer from a triplet sensitizer leads to different types of delayed luminescence from biphenylene: delayed S 1→S 0 and S 2→S 0 fluorescence and delayed excimer fluorescence due to triplet-triplet annihilation, and phosphorescence. All four delayed luminescences have been observed for the first time.
