Button battery ingestion is a life-threatening emergency which can cause injuries such as oesophageal strictures, perforations, tracheoesophageal fistulas, mediastinitis and aortoesophageal fistulas. The extent of damage increases with the duration the button battery remains lodged, underscoring the importance of promptly identifying ingestion.
