Abstract

Moult of body feathers was found to occur in the population of Siskins throughout the period November to April in a wintering area in NE Spain. Body feather moult occurred in both sexes, in adults and first‐year birds, and was particularly apparent in early spring. This probably reflected an adaptive opportunistic moult strategy.
