Abstract

A delayed fluorescence (DF) emission of biphotonic nature originating from tryptophan residues is observed in pepsin and carbonic anhydrase, at 77 °K, in water-ethylene glycol glasses. No delayed fluorescence could be observed with lysozyme. The DF emission is probably due to ion-electron recombination during UV excitation.
