Abstract

SUMMARY Diferences between extracellular and blood lactate concentrations at various exercise intencities, and its importance in the application. In this study, extracellular and total blood lactate differences were investigated on various levels in twelve male track and field athletes. Significant differences had been found on each level (p<0.0001 and p<0.0005). It was shown that differences between extracellular lactate and total blood lactate levels rose by the increase in extracellular lactate levels. Thus, there was a significant difference between extracellular lactate and total blood lactate values when the lactic acid levels were at the maximum. After running twenty minutes at the speed of 4 mM!L lactate threshold determi ned by the extracellular lactate analysis, average extracellular lactate level was 7.375 mM!L (total blood lactate: 9.35 mM!L). These results were not in the range of steady state limits. For that reason extracellular lactate analyzes are not appropiate for the
