Abstract
This work presents the characteristics of children's magazines, the origin and development of children's periodicals in Serbia and the importance of children's magazines. In France, in 1757, the first children's literary magazine, Dečji magazin is created. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the following magazines were published in Serbian language: Školski list, Dečji prijatelj, Radovan, Golub, Neven and many others, whose existence significantly influenced the development of young readers who, in addition to poems and stories, could find a theatrical pieces, translations, riddles, rebuses, crossword puzzles and more. Editors, publishers and associates who were more prominent Serbs of that time, made a significant contribution to the development of the periodicals of that time. During the 20th century, the topic of the magazine changed, so the main topics were war, criticism of capitalism and building a new society. In the twenty-first century, the magazine also moved to online media. An example is certainly electronic literary magazine for children and youth - Slova na struju from the Public Library "Radislav Nikčević" in Jagodina. By reading magazines, children develop creativity and imagination, form a view of the world, develop beautiful feelings, and spend quality free time. There are also magazines that use their concept to affirm the creativity of students and thus encourage them to become creators of various contents.
