Abstract

Degree reduction of Bezier curves in vestigated to reduce the data storage in CAD systems and to increase the robust vess and efficiency of Bezier curve calculatian. The efficiency of several classical methods for degree reduction of Bezier curves, including discrete degree reduction, L 2 degree reduction, L ∞ degree reduction and least squares degree reduction, are discussed. The results show that L ∞ degree reduction is the most accurate, but L 2 degree reduction and least squares degree reduction are more efficient. The analysis is used to develop a general algorithm suitable for all the methods. A scheme is than developed for multidegree reduction of Bezier curves.
