Abstract

Sources of sludge formation during the prolonged storage of petroleum sulfoxides in steel drums were examined and the quality of the sulfoxides after a storage period of 1.5 years was analyzed for corrosion product content. Corrosion rates were determined for VSt3sp, 08Kh13, 10Kh14G14N4T, 12Kh18N10T, and carbon steels and for aluminum. The effect of sulfoxide water content on steel corrosion was also assessed to determine the degree of drying required by the sulfoxides. Corrosion resistance was determined qualitatively and quantitatively.
