Abstract

The composite ACF-DSA electrode was made on the basis of both commercial DSA anode and ACF electrode so as to degrade organics more effectively and completely. The composite electrode was proved to be more powerful for tetracycline decolorization and mineralization than using the DSA and ACF alone. With the aid of 254 nm ultraviolet irradiation and hydrogen peroxide, the COD removal efficiency was increased by 59.6%. An optimal dosage of hydrogen peroxide was observed for tetracycline degradation using the composite electrode under ultraviolet irradiation. Acidic and alkaline solutions were proved to be favorable for the tetracycline degradation and mineralization. The supporting electrolyte was also a good help during tetracycline degradation. The electrochemical oxidation using the composite ACF-DSA electrode is expected to be highly powerful for organics decolorization and mineralization and has the potential for practical water treatment.
