Abstract
Alcaligenes denitrificans was isolated from sewage sludge and showed a strong degradative ability towards volatile fatty acids. The organism was tested both as free cells and immobilised in calcium alginate, for the ability to degrade the sodium salt of a typical volatile fatty acid, valeric acid.
