Abstract

Commercial niobium-25% zirconium wire which has been tested before and after being subjected to temperature cycles similar to those used for curing Formvar and polyester magnet wire insulations. Although the times at temperature are short, definite and repeatable degradation and anomalies in short sample characteristics are produced. Coils wound with non-heated wire do not show significantly better performance when compared with coils wound with polyester insulated wire.
