Abstract

Fe alginate gel beads were prepared and used the as the heterogeneous Fenton catalysts for the oxidative degradation of a typical azo dye, reactive blue 222 in water. The influences of some important variables on degradation of reactive blue 222 are discussed. The results indicated that Fe alginate gel beads can play a great promotion role in the photocatalytic degradation of the model dye in a wide pH range of 2.0-8.0. Moreover, increasing the bead loading, Fe content in single gel bead and light intensity could accelerate the degradation of the dye in water.
