Abstract

REPORTS pertaining to the use of cottonseed meal in the rations of turkeys and chickens have been reviewed by Kratzer, Davis and Marshall (1955), and by West (1955). Kratzer el al. (1955) reported the results of one experiment in which commercial, screw-press cottonseed meal was used to replace none, ⅓, ⅔ and all of the soybean oil meal in the turkey starter and in the turkey growing mash. Small quantities of fish meal and dried whey were used in these diets, but the cottonseed meal and/or soybean oil meal supplied most of the supplementary protein. The results indicated that good quality cottonseed meal may be used safely to replace all of the soybean oil meal in the turkey growing mash, which was fed after 8 weeks of age when the requirement for lysine is not critical.Reported in this paper are results obtained by feeding degossypolized solvent cottonseed meal and …
