Abstract
A new class of s-polarization solutions - degenerate modes - is discovered and studied for a symmetric planar waveguide immersed in a nonlinear focusing medium. A finite interval of energy integral values corresponds to a specific value of the effective refractive index. The relationship between the degenerate modes and asymmetric and asymmetric nonlinear modes is clarified. Numerical analysis of the dispersion of these modes in conducted.
