Abstract

An original method for determination of the deformation zone length and corresponding plastic strain is suggested. The method is based on microstructural analysis of wedge-shaped specimens produced by controlled rapid process interruption. Electron backscatter diffraction analysis followed by grain orientation spread (GOS) characterization allows description of the grain evolution during the passage through the roll gap. The appearance of the first elongated grains and increase in GOS values detected in the microstructure of the strip core zone were used for exact identification of the deformation zone origin.
