Abstract

In the pressing process of picture tube panel, the thermal and mechanical loads cause the mold blocks to deform. This deformation results in large deviations on the display surface of the panel. A thermoelastic model is presented in this paper to predict the deformation of the mold during pressing, which suggests the amounts that the mold cavity should be machined by. The model is based on the steady mold temperature field and thermoelastic boundary element method. Quadratic subparametric elements are used in the thermoelastic analysis, and a semi-analytical scheme coupled with element subdivision is employed for the integration. The predicted deformation has been side verified by comparing the dimensional accuracy of the panels produced by the molds considering a uniform shrinkage and considering the predicted mold deformation.
