Abstract

An experimental investigation has been made into the tangential mechanical deformation properties of contact surfaces of mechanical joints. The author considers a constant normal load on the joints and an oscillating tangential load. Only “microscopic” tangential deformations are considered. The influence of the presence of an adhesive bound between contact surfaces has also been considered.
