Abstract

Shallow shells are common structural elements used in various sectors of industry. Problems of the theory of shallow shells have been the subject of numerous investigations, the results of which can be found. For the most part, researchers have focused on one-layer isotropic shells of constant thickness. Here, we examine problems related to the statics of shallow shells that are rectangular in plan and are composed of orthotropic layers of variable thickness. We assume the following in regard to the parameters of the coordinate surface of shells of this class: the internal geometry of the coordinate surface is identical to the geometry in a plane; the principal curvatures k{sub 1} and k{sub 2} are constant. The coordinates {alpha} and {beta} are identical to the cartesian coordinates in a plane.
