Abstract

: New guidelines point out that Obesity and Metabolic Surgery operations are no longer simple considerations, in specific conditions they are expedited recommendations. Especially over the last two decades, bariatric surgical operations rapidly increased in number, as the laparoscopic surgical techniques progressed. Not only new techniques emerged in Obesity surgery, but also new hormonal investigations that were made on endocrinological responses of organs of embryological foregut and hindgut, encouraged surgeons to attach with more desire than ever to Surgery. By years pass, with new investigations and better expectations, the expression ‘bariatric surgery’ has been replaced by ‘obesity surgery’ that makes clear that these operations are for the treatment of Obesity disease. Later metabolic improvements that were gained made addition to designate as “Obesity and Metabolic Surgery”. That makes clear that these operations are for the treatment of the Obesity disease and its related metabolic complications such as, Type 2 Diabetes, hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and farther. Obesity and comorbid conditions are rapidly increasing in number across the globe and regrettably, there are more people struggling with Obesity today, when compared to Malnutrition. With this disparity and the major health concerns, definitions and indications have changed over time, covering more patient groups every year.
