Abstract

Hedge funds are a hot topic in the financial world. During the financial crisis, it has become even more obvious that investment banks play a decisive role in the status of the financial market. The United States and Europe are determined to prevent a financial crisis with the underlying cause from happening in the future. New and future legislation on hedge funds have to protect investors, hedge funds have to be transparent and registration processes are developed in order to track hedge funds strategies and their assets under management. In this paper, hedge funds are closely examined and their strategies are explained. Several emerging and mature markets in relation to hedge fund regulations are compared. It is important to see what makes hedge fund choose certain strategies and how the government adapts regulation according to these strategies or if hedge funds adapt their strategies to the current and future legislation.
