Abstract

It is shown that in dirty type-II superconductors the arising Abrikosov flux lattice is unstable with respect to shear deformation in fields slightly above the lower critical one H c1. The resulting phase is a ferroelastic one with respect to the usual hexagonal lattice. A new ferroelastic phase transition to the mixed state that takes place at some field H ∗>H cl is predicted.
