Abstract
In an effort to understand the ferromagnetic behaviour ofCu2O-based diluted magnetic semiconductors, the electronic structures of Mn-dopedCu2O sintered samples have been investigated using both experimental and theoretical approaches. MnL2,3 x-ray emission measurements and first-principle calculations reveal that Mn-dopedCu2O sinteredat 650 and 800 °C contains Mn interstitials as well as substitutional Mn atoms, but thedefect configuration depends on the sintering temperature. A reduction ofTC with sintering temperature can be explained by the appearance of an antiferromagneticsuperexchange interaction between substitutional Mn atoms via oxygen.
