Abstract

Abstract New default filters are proposed for datum cylinders subject to the ISO GPS family of standards. The filters are based on new geometric concepts: the intersection structured hull for outer cylinders and the union structured hull for inner cylinders. The hulls are mathematically defined, and their properties are illustrated graphically and analytically. The resulting filters’ behavior is compared to the closing ball filter, showing improved effectiveness in representing part assembly in the presence of a variety of form errors, surface interruptions, and voids.
