Abstract
Individuals with a condition called ‘Body Integrity Identity Disorder’ are able-bodied persons who desire to become amputees. Some with this disorder have attempted to perform amputations on themselves, while others have sought amputations from professional surgeons. This article explores the ethics and theological implications of such amputations in the light of the Christian tenets concerning creation and humanity.
