Abstract

Purpose: Calcified cartilage (CC) undergoes constant remodeling due to two competing events: 1) mineralization of the deep non-calcified cartilage that advances the tidemark, and 2) new bone formation through endochondral ossification that advances the cement line. However, CC modifications in the presence of osteoarthritis (OA) progression are not well understood. In this study, we investigate CC morphology during OA progression and aging in the rabbit anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) model.
