Abstract

The Finite Element Method (FEM) is ideal for the prediction of cracks in sheet metal forming such as deep drawing processes or stretching processes. These fracture criteria can be either instantaneous or integral fracture criteria. Precondition is knowing what kind of crack will appear in the process. There are different process parameters such as the blank diameter, the punch geometry or the blank holder force. They influence the type of crack which is likely to appear.
