Abstract

Rare outsize clasts are present in hemipelagic rocks of the Rhuddanian (Llandovery: Silurian) Cwmere Formation in central Wales. They were very likely derived as dropstones from the holdfasts of large algae (kelp or fucoids) which colonized the margins of the Welsh Basin during the Silurian, and hint at a relatively high organic productivity.
