Abstract

DEEP, the IAEA Desalination Economic Evaluation Program, is increasingly used as a tool for quick cost estimates of co-generated power and water production schemes. The Tunisian-French inter-regional study on the feasibility of nuclear desalination for the south of Tunisia, a project supported by the IAEA, is an example of recent DEEP applications. The code allows cost comparison of various power generation options, including nuclear and fossil fuel, and various desalination design options, including MSF, MED, RO and hybrid combinations. This note is meant to shed some light on the DEEP formulation and some of the new code developments underway.
