Abstract

Based on the analysis of the FFT algorithm for the inverse Vening Meinesz formula, we present a new method to compute the components of the vertical and a formula to estimate the innermost zone effects to improve the accuracy of altimetry gravity recovery. The result shows that the innermost zone effects are related to the gradient of the vertical and the area of the innermost zone, while the vertical itself has no influence on the innermost zone effects. In the end, as an application of the formula derived in this paper, we estimate the innermost zone effects of the gravity recovery from ERS-1 altimetry data for an area of 6° × 6° in the North Atlantic, and analyze the results of the estimation.
