Abstract

Phase noise of reference quartz oscillators limits the ability of radio communication systems. To reduce this noise it is necessary to increase the power dissipated in a quartz resonator. But because of too much power in the crystal plate, thermal stresses appear, being a consequence of the specific components of the additional phase noise caused by the transformation of the amplitude fluctuations in the frequency deviation. Analysis of emerging thermal stress is quite a challenge. This article describes the technique of calculating the thermal field of the quartz resonator, which allows calculating the three-dimensional problem in a two-dimensional region. Dimension reduction is based on the information about the distribution law for the heat generation in thickness. The method offered takes into account the geometric properties of the resonator and the distribution of the amplitude variations in the resonator body.
