Abstract

A set of superconducting shim coils for the 9.4-T whole-body MRI superconducting magnet have been designed. A minimum criterion for the Z2 shim coils' decoupling from the magnet is introduced for the safety of the Z2 shim coils during the magnet quench. The traditional two-pair structure of the Z2 shim coils is introduced based on analytical method. A new five-coil structure of the Z2 shim coils for decoupling design is proposed. Optimized solutions with respect to different design parameters are obtained and analyzed. Solution is chosen for the magnet in consideration of the capacity that the magnet needs and the field error that other shim methods can deal with.
