Abstract

Rapid as the development of film industry in our country is, audiovisual translation plays an increasingly important role as a bridge of communication between the Chinese audiences and English films. However, the history of audiovisual translation in China is not as long as that in the West and the domestic researches on audiovisual translation, especially the theoretical researches, are not remarkable. Until today, the systematic theory of audiovisual translation has not been constructed. Therefore, the author intends to make a study on audiovisual translation from the perspective of adaptation theory to find out the five aspects that subtitle translator should focus on and the specific elements which the translator should adapt to.

We can draw the conclusion that there are two essential elements in a film and television work: picture and sound. We can draw the conclusion that the content of film and television works includes language and text. This content is presented in the form of dialogue and subtitles. According to its cultural definition, films (film and television works) are cultural artifacts created by specific cultures. They reflect those cultures, and, in turn, affect them. [3] From this we can come to the conclusion that: various elements of film and television works constitute a collection, and form a special form of cultural products. Sound: all the sounds that form the background, such as cicadas, birds, wind, rain, laughter, crying, singing and other auditory elements
