Abstract

We investigate the structure of the vacuum and the behavior of uniform quark matter at high density in the color-dielectric model for SU (3) c. We extend the original formulation of the color-dielectric model first to take care of chiral symmetry (by use of the σ-model) and second to include negative energy orbitals. At high baryonic density the model describes the two phase transitions which are expected in QCD: deconfinement of quarks and chiral symmetry restoration.
