Abstract

Killed copepods decomposed within 11 days in 4°C Halifax water and within 3 days in 22°C Sargasso Sea water. In both cases initial infection occurred on the exoskeleton and apparently progressed into the organisms through the mouth. The urosome and internal extremities were the last to be attacked.Collection of surface corpses by net is thought to be impossible after the first day of death in subtropical waters and beyond the sixth day in temperate coastal waters.
