Abstract

Decomposition of the low- T c phase of Bi-based oxide superconductor (Bi 2Sr 2CaCu 2O 8) was investigated in situ to study the phase relation. Thin plate crystals were observed to grow from the solution produced by the partial melting of the low- T c phase. They were identified using micro-area X-ray diffractometry and chemical analysis by EDX. The results showed that they were composed from the high- T c phase (Bi 2Sr 2Ca 2Cu 3O 10). The sequence of the crystallization of various solid phases was clarified.
