Abstract

A multivariate pattern classifier can decode both veridical and illusory visual position from single-trial EEG data with millisecond temporal resolution. Neural representations of illusory position rapidly advance from occipital to more central areas. When sensation and perception are dissociated, neural activity codes for the percept as early as 80 ms post-stimulus. Conclusions: The classifier is able to decode perceived position, even when bottom-up position information is identical. This performance is not attributable to decoding reversal direction (control condition). 2. Decoding Perception
