Abstract

Representation of IUGG. The Union was represented by President Joseph Kaplan, Past President V. V. Beloussov, and General Secretary George D. Garland, as directed by the Council meeting in Berkeley. The President and General Secretary attended all meetings of both Executive Board and General Assembly from November 18 to 29, and the Past President all meetings from November 20 to 29.New Structure of International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU). The Extraordinary General Assembly adopted the new structure and the new statutes of ICSU, substantially as recommended in the final report of the Committee on Future Structure. Because of reservations held by many unions, including IUGG, on the proposed grouping of unions for representation on the new Executive Committee, reference to grouping was removed from the statutes. No new unions were admitted at this Assembly, and it will therefore be four years before the number of unions can exceed 14, which is the number of union representatives on the Executive Committee.
