Abstract

This paper reviews Bell Canada's approach to and experience in managing the orderly deployment of new technology throughout its territory. The approaches used to establishing the direction and speed of technological change are reviewed. The techniques which are specifically used in deciding on the application of new technology are discussed, with typical examples. Appropriate conclusions are drawn with regard to the evolution and deployment of major new technology within a large operating telephone company such as Bell Canada.
