Abstract

The process of power system planning spans many years of planning and investment decisions made under conditions of considerable uncertainty. The operations planner, working in the time frame of a few years in the future, faces a different set of opportunities and problems requiring decisions under uncertain conditions and possible different criteria from the long-range planner. This paper outlines the basic seasonal operational planning processes and various factors the methodologies used at Ontario Hydro to solve the operational planning problems with the aim of achieving the most effective and efficient power system operation.
