Abstract

Abstract The disordered iodine atoms in the ionic conductor, crystalline α-LiIO3, produced by an electrostatic field applied along the C axis were observed by backscattering and channeling. The dynamic behaviour of protons channeled in α-LiIO3 crystals with the applied field was studied in detail. The results show the destruction of the single crystal structure due to Li ion migration under the action of the electrostatic field. The half angular width, ψ½, and the minimum yield, χmin' of the channeling parameters have also been measured.
