Abstract

Ingestion of trans fats (TFs) is a public health concern, and it has been suggested by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), American Diabetes Association, and American Heart Association that they be ingested in limited quantites. This document covers what a TF is, how TFs are harmful, and current labeling guidelines; it additionally recommends changes in Food and Drug Administration (FDA) food labeling guidelines to improve awareness of TFs in foods.
