Abstract

The decay of bromine-76 was studied using high resolution Ge(Li) detectors in singles and coincidence mode. Bromine-76 was produced via various reactions, i.e., 75As(α, 3n), 76Br and 65Cu(14N, 3n), 76Kr(14.8 h decay to 76Br). The results of these experiments verified the previously reported levels of 76Se, studied by (d,d′) reaction. In addition to the previously described transitions, the following levels in 76Se were observed: 1689.5, 1942, 2890, 2949, 3600, 3910, 4030, 4140, 4570 keV. Accurate energies for the various γ rays were obtained using several Ge(Li) detectors in conjunction with a PDP-8/I computer. The mass difference between 76Br/76Se was measured to be 4680 ± 100 keV. A comparison of the level schemes of the even–even, neutron deficient Se isotope is given.
