Abstract

A model for the decay of neutron yield from titanium–tritide targets is proposed based on the collisional displacement of tritium atoms by the incoming deuteron beam. The cross section for these displacement collisions is derived. The decay predicted by the model is in good agreement with experiments on several targets. The model predicts the improved lifetime of targets when they are bombarded by an analyzed deuteron beam.
