Abstract

The theory of invariants is used to find the best forms of the general amplitude for the decay of a scalar or pseudoscalar particle into four identical spinless bosons. These forms of the amplitude are consistent with the conservation of energy, momentum, and angular momentum, as well as with Bose-Einstein statistics. Kinematical zeros of the pseudoscalar amplitude are located. The differential probability for decay into four identical unpolarized particles of an arbitrary unpolarized boson has symmetry properties of the scalar amplitude. This fact suggests some specific methods of data analysis.
