Abstract

The level scheme of 159Gd has been investigated in the decay of 19 min 159Eu. Singles γ-ray spectra and γγ-coincidences have been measured using Ge(Li) and scintillation detectors. Many new γ-transitions have been observed. A decay scheme is proposed involving 18 excited states in 159Gd, 16 of them are confirmed by coincidences. The quantum numbers of the levels are associated with intrinsic and collective modes of excitation in the framswork of the Nilsson model. Levels at 744.4 and 1128 keV are interpreted as mixed Nilsson states 3 2 +[402] and 3 2 +[651].
