Abstract

Glyoxylic acid and its acetal derivatives are low toxicity, easy handling and storage, high stability and easy availability. In addition, they are easy to perform decarboxylative cross-coupling reactions. Therefore, the decarboxylative cross-coupling of glyoxylic acid and its acetal derivatives are beginning to emerge. This review mainly focuses on the decarboxylative cross-coupling reactions using glyoxylic acid and its acetal derivatives as formylation agents. • Formylation. • Decarboxylative cross-coupling. • Hydroformylation of terminal arylacetylenes/alkenes. • N -formylation of amines.
